Water Polo loses battle for fourth place

PASADENA, CA — The East Los Angeles College water polo team lost 8-4 to Pasadena City College in a battle for fourth place in the South Coast Conference on Wednesday Oct. 17.

The Huskies, 2-14 overall and 1-3 in SCC play, were only down 3-2 after two periods, but then couldn’t stop to the Lancers’ (6-6, 2-2) strikes in the third quarter.

ELAC freshman goalkeeper Krystal Ramirez (Montebello High School) blocked a Pasadena shot from sophomore utility player Sharon Perez (Palmdale Knight HS) less than a minute into the third period.

Perez caught the rebound and was quick to slam it in for a Lancer score.

Less than a minute later Perez added another goal off a Pasadena power play for a three point Lancer lead. Pasadena never looked back.

The Huskies passed the ball well on offense with four Huskies’ scoring a goal each, sophomores Brandy Macias (Bell Gardens), Yvonne Young (Mark Keppel) and Stephanie Perez (Roosevelt) and freshman Alejandra Mendoza (South Gate).

Ramirez had five saves for ELAC, Macias had five steals and freshman Julia Soto (Garfield) had two.

ELAC continues SCC games on the road this week. The Huskies play at Chaffey College (8-7, 4-0) on Monday Oct. 12 and at winless El Camino College (0-11, 0-4) on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Both contests begin at 3 p.m.
